CASA ROMANA

Previous Next

Casa Romana or The Roman House is located in the northeastern part of the town, close to the eastern defensive wall from which it is separated by a small street. The building was excavated in 1970 and 1972 -1974. One room was completely uncovered while 9 other were partially excavated. The walls of the house were fresco decorated with depiction of Ionian pilasters and human figures. Casa Romana was built in the middle of the 1st century and the frescoes were repainted during the 2nd century. The excavations didn’t reveal the whole complex because of the floods from the river Crna. The level of the river is the same with the level of the floor. The house was destroyed by a flood at the end of the 3rd or the beginning of the 4th century BC.
