September, 27 2011 | Ioannes Stobaeus

35 people from Canada, USA, New Zealand, Turkey, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Belgium and Great Britain, in the period between 5th of August and 18th of September took active part in the archaeological field school organized by Balkan Heritage and NI Stobi. The participants were introduced to the history of Macedonia and Stobi, the religion of the population through the centuries, the ancient architecture and the material culture. During the fieldwork the participants had the opportunity to understand the methods of the contextual approach in field archaeology and the process of technical documentation. In the 6 weeks of excavation, 4 different rooms of a large house from the second half of the 6th century were uncovered. The discovered artifacts such are ceramic vessels, coins, bone and metal objects reflected segments of the everyday life from this period. The field school project in 2012 will continue in the same area in order to complete the excavation of the house. Click here for the photos.
