Beginning of Stobi field school 2011

August, 03 2011

The Stobi International Field School 2011 will begin on the 3rd of August as part of the collaboration between NI Stobi and the Balkan Heritage Foundation. During three sessions (two weeks each), 37 participants from all over the world will be introduced to the basic methods of archaeological fieldwork. The excavations are focused on the 6th century houses in the Semicircular Court area. Besides the fieldwork, the participants will attend lectures on different subjects related to Stobi and they will have two excursions to Ohrid and Bitola.  This is a great opportunity for the presentation of a very significant part of Macedonian cultural heritage. The participants who are students will be awarded with university credits.

As a reminder, in the period between 12 and 25 of June, Stobi hosted workshops for pottery and fresco conservation and documentation. Some of the participants from the United States and United Kingdom took part in the conservation of several small vessels from the Roman period while the rest of the participants were included in the process of preservation of small pieces of frescoes from different buildings in Stobi.  Click here for the photos.
