The horseman is one of the rare figurines from Stobi that can not be identified with a certain deity. In the art of the antiquity there are many sculptures and reliefs of horsemen. Some of the depictions are related to certain events or inspired from the everyday life, while others have religious background. In the Republic of Macedonia and wider in the Balkan area, the best known is the Thracian horseman, a cult connected with different Gods and especially with heroization. Besides the Thracian horseman, many depictions of the Dioscuri are also known from the Pre – Roman period. During the Roman era, the presence of the Danubian horseman cult is attested in some parts of Macedonia.
