One of the most beautiful terracotta figurines discovered at Stobi is Eros riding a bull. Eros, the son of the deities Aphrodite and Ares, was god of love, beauty and sexual desire. Ancient poet Hesiod, in his Theogony, makes Eros one of the primordial gods, naming him the most righteous among gods. He is the firstborn Light and impelling force in the ever-flowing nature and harmony in the cosmos, created by the power of love. His endless love with Psyche is one of the most romantic stories in ancient Greek mythology. Although he was usually presented riding a dolphin or a swan, image of Eros riding a bull is connected with fertility.
