The lamp has a depiction of a tree in the middle, surrounded by grapevine. Grapevines are a symbol of youth, fertility and eternal life. It is strongly connected to the god of wine, wineskin, grapes and theater; the god who inspires ritual madness, joyful worship and ecstasy, carnivals and celebration - Dionysus. The myth about the creation of vines is also strongly connected to this deity: Ampelos, a young Satyros loved by Dionysus, was slain by a wild bull, and was transformed by the grieving god into the very first grapevine.

Wine making was also a regular part of life in all civilizations and Pliny the Elder speaks of vines supposedly 600 years old. The religious symbolism of vines is also present in Christianity. In old Christian scriptures, Noah is said to have planted a vineyard after he survived the great flood.
