In 1972, the building of the old train station was converted into a small museum. The exhibition room contained artifacts from different centuries of Stobi’s existence.
Pottery, lamps, coins, metal objects and terracotta figurines were displayed in five showcases. Maps and photos from the ongoing excavations were added to the exhibition. A reconstruction of a grave with a cremated deceased was put along the south wall. In the middle of the room there were pieces of mosaic from the Synagogue and the Episcopal basilica. The sculpture of an emperor, discovered in the Theatre, was standing in the middle of the room as well.
The ruinated museum building and the need of new conservation of the exhibited objects were the main reason for the museum to be closed in 2009.
